Funding
THE SHOULDER
The Shoulder is a private, Christian, non-profit, 501 ( c)3
corporation. Though we are certified by the Alabama
Department of Mental Health, we receive NO federal, state, or
local funding.

Approximately 40 percent of our budget comes from sliding
scale client fees. The remaining 60 percent is from donations
from individuals, businesses, foundations and grants.
The Shoulder is a local agency with no parent organization to
fall back on. We are totally dependent on the local community
for our funding. Without the community’s support, we cannot
survive.

It costs a lot to stay open 24 hours, provide food and housing,
and offer a top-quality program to about 40 individuals every
day of the year. Every donation is fully tax deductible.
