The Shoulder allows program participants to work during the day and recieve treatment in the evenings.

The Shoulder was founded in 1988 as a Christian non-profit substance abuse treatment center. A prayer group composed of physicians and business people opened the residential treatment center on Battleship Parkway near Spanish Fort, AL.
The Shoulder operated there from 1988 to 2005. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina washed away the facility.
The Shoulder re-opened on October 3rd 2005 in temporary quarters in Daphne, AL.
The Shoulder moved to its permament home in 2012, on Coleman Lane in Spanish Fort Alabama, which offers residential treatment for men.
